Shape Recovery from Noisy Images by Curve Evolution

چکیده

1: A new approach is presented for recovering shapes from noisy images. First, an edge-strength function, v, at every pixel is determined by implementing a segmentation functional. Then, the zero-crossings of the laplacian of the smoothed image are allowed to evolve under the influence of v. Each point on the zero-crossings moves in the direction of the normal with a velocity consisting of two components, a component proportional to the directional derivative of v in the direction of the normal and a component proportional to curvature. The former pulls the zero-crossings towards the true object boundaries while the latter smooths them, eliminating at the same time extraneous edges. The final result is a representation of the shape outline in the form of a collection of closed curves.

Rigid and Non-rigid Shape Evolutions for Shape Alignment and Recovery in Images

The same type of objects in different images may vary in their shapes because of rigid and non-rigid shape deformations, occluding foreground as well as cluttered background. The problem concerned in this work is the shape extraction in such challenging situations. We approach the shape extraction through shape alignment and recovery. This paper presents a novel and general method for shape ali...

Curve Extraction Using Genetic Algorithm Based on Closeness and Continuity in Perceptive Grouping Factors

A method to extract a visual continuous curve using a genetic algorithm is proposed in an image including a discontinuous curve and noisy points. The fitness of an individual in the population is defined by the global shape of a curve that is formed by connecting all points extracted by the individual based on proximity and continuity of points in perceptive grouping factors. A final shape of a...

Riemannian Drums, Anisotropic Curve Evolution and Segmentation

The method of curve evolution is a popular method for recovering shape boundaries. However isotropic metrics have always been used to induce the flow of the curve and potential steady states tend to be difficult to determine numerically, especially in noisy or low-contrast situations. Initial curves shrink past the steady state and soon vanish. In this paper, anisotropic metrics are considered ...

Curve evolution and segmentation functionals: application to color images

In recent years, curve evolution has developed into an important tool in Computer Vision and has been applied to a wide variety of problems such as smoothing of shapes, shape analysis and shape recovery. The different versions of curve evolution used in Computer Vision together with the preprocessing step of constructing an edgestrength function can be integrated in the form of a new segmentati...

A stochastic flow for feature extraction

In recent years evolution of level sets of two-dimensional functions or images in time through a partial differential equation has emerged as an important tool in image processing. Curve evolutions, which may be viewed as an evolution of a single level curve, has been applied to a wide variety of problems such as smoothing of shapes, shape analysis and shape recovery. We give a stochastic inter...
